UPDATE: Iowa Man Dies After Parachuting Accident
BROOKLYN, Iowa (AP) -- An Iowa skydiver has died in an accident near Brooklyn, about 60 miles east of Des Moines.
Officials say the skydiver was in a plane that took off around 5:30 p.m. Friday when his parachute accidentally deployed, pulling him from the plane. The man's body was found in a field near Brooklyn.
Officials have not released the man's name, but say he is from Brooklyn.
The Federal Aviation Administration, Iowa State Patrol and Poweshiek County Sheriff's Office are investigating.
UPDATE: BROOKLYN, Iowa (AP) -- The owner of Skydive Iowa says a man who fell to his death Friday had planned only to observe the flight, not jump.
Company owner Bruce Kennedy says that the eastern Iowa man's parachute deployed prematurely during take off and he was pulled from the plane. The man's name hasn't been released by authorities.
Kennedy says everyone on Skydive Iowa flights wears a parachute. The man who died had previously flown on more than 10 observation flights.
The man died after the plane took off from Brooklyn, Iowa, Friday evening.
Authorities from the Federal Aviation Administration and Iowa State Patrol are investigating.
