Feds Charge Woman in Murder-For-Hire Case

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) -- Federal charges have been filed against a 23-year-old Dubuque woman accused of trying to hire someone to kill her father.
The indictment filed Wednesday says Megan Schmidt used the Internet, emails and a telephone "with the intent that the murder of a person be committed."
Assistant Dubuque County Attorney Chris Corken says local charges will be dropped, giving way to the federal case.
The Dubuque County Sheriff's Office says Schmidt posted an inquiry on Craigslist on June 22, offering $10,000 for an undisclosed job. Callers were told upfront about a murder-for-hire job that paid $10,000.
