IA Unemployment Ticks Higher

DES MOINES, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- State leaders say Iowa's unemployment rate inched higher to 4.8% in July, up 0.1% from the month before. That's still well below the U.S. unemployment rate of 7.4%.
"Despite this month's increase in the unemployment rate, nonfarm employment continued to advance at a healthy pace, said Teresa Wahlert, director of Iowa Workforce Development.  "Nonfarm jobs have increased by 5,000 or more for the past three months."
The statewide estimate of unemployed Iowans stood at 79,300, up from more than 76,000 in June.
