Iowa Communities Get $115,000 to Plant Trees

CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/FOX 28) --
   Alliant Energy says it will help support 25 tree-planting projects in Iowa communities this fall.
   It will all be part of the 24th year of the "Branching Out" program.
   Alliant is partnering with Trees Forever to give out $115,050.
   Many of the money will go to community projects right here in Eastern Iowa:

3.) Burlington - $10,000
4.) Cedar Rapids/ CVHH - $1,400
5.) Clinton - $9,947
6.) Creston - $10,000
7.) DeWitt - $6,345
8.) Dubuque/Loras College - $5,000
9.) Eldon/ American Gothic - $4,680
10.) Eldon Riverfron - $1,800
11.) Fairfield - $5,655
12.) Hiawatha - $1,750
13.) Huxley - $1,000
14.) Jefferson/St. Joseph's - $3,525
15.) Jefferson - $1,500
16.) Keystone - $1,575
17.) Leon - $7,000
18.) Lisbon - $3,451
19.) Marion - $7,500
20.) Marion/Living Water United Methodist Church - $1,050
21.) Marshalltown - $1,500
22.) Mason City - $8,290

   Alliant and Trees Forever provide between $1,000 and $10,000 for community-based tree planting projects each year.   These can be at parks, community gateways, cemetaries, nature trails, nursing homes, libraries, schools, and more. 
   Since the beginning of the "Branching Out" program, more than 1.4 million trees have been planted in Iowa.
   Applications for the grants can be submitted at any time, but funding is only decided twice per year (usually November and June).  To submit an application or get more information about the projects, contact Trees Forever at 1-800-369-1269 or visit treesforever.org.  You can also visit alliantenergy.com/branchingout.
