Iowa Supreme Court Won't Review Murder Case

GREENE, Iowa (AP) -- The Iowa Supreme Court says it won't review the case of a northern Iowa man serving a life sentence for killing his wife in 2011.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reported Friday the court denied further review in the case of 41-year-old Thomas Joseph Petersen. He was sentenced in June 2012 to life in prison for first-degree murder in the death of 36-year-old Judy Petersen.

Thomas Petersen argued to the Court of Appeals that there wasn't evidence to prove he acted with malice aforethought or specific intent when he stabbed or cut his wife nearly 130 times with three knives. He said he was too inebriated after drinking at least 18 beers.

The Court of Appeals upheld his conviction. The Iowa Supreme Court says it won't consider the case.
