School Board Approves Pool in Davenport High School
DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) -- Officials in Davenport have approved spending nearly $27 million for a new pool, auditorium and other improvements at the city's Central High School.
The Davenport Community School Board approved the spending Monday night.
The work will be funded by local sales tax revenue. Construction should begin by next spring.
When finished, the 106-year-old school will have a new 25-yard, eight-lane pool, an auditorium with seating for up to 900 people, new tennis courts and additional parking.
Although board members approved the work, there was disagreement about spending more than $1 million to add a warm-up/cool-down area at the pool for competitive swimmers.
