Polk County May Put Bond Measure To Vote
POLK COUNTY, IA (AP) -- Polk County supervisors will decide this week whether to refer a bond measure of up to $81 million to voters for work on the courthouse and other buildings.
The Board of Supervisors will take up the matter Tuesday morning.
They are expected to place the measure on the Nov. 5 ballot, asking voters to authorize the bonds to pay for remodeling and a historic rehabilitation of the 107-year-old courthouse in downtown Des Moines.
The money also would be used to remodel the criminal court annex and Polk County Justice Center Annex.
The total project cost is estimated at $89 million, with the amount beyond the bonded amount coming from county funds.
