Man Hurt In Crash Near Bertram

LINN COUNTY (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- One man was taken to the hospital after a three-vehicle crash on Hwy. 13/151 near Bertram. Linn County At 4:09 Monday afternoon, Sheriff's Deputies and several other agencies responded to the crash, which happened near the intersection of southbound Hwy. 13/151 and Mount Vernon Road.

When crews arrived, they found a car had been rear-ended by a semi. The car was pushed forward into another semi in front of it.

The driver of the car, 34-year-old Faruk Berberovic, of Cedar Rapids, was taken to Mercy Medical Center with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. The two semi drivers were not hurt.

One southbound lane of traffic was closed for about an hour while the crash site was cleaned up and the vehicles were removed from the roadway.

The driver of the semi that hit the car, 63-year-old Michael R. Brownell, of Wyoming, Iowa, was issued a citation for "failing to stop in a clear and assured distance."

The crash remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriffs Office and the Iowa Department of Transportation.
