Amphitheater Groundbreaking Set in Marion

MARION (CBS 2/FOX 28) --
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Klopfenstein Amphitheater for the Performing Arts will be held on Wednesday, July 10 at 11:30 a.m. at Lowe Park, 4500 10th Street in Marion.
The amphitheater will be situated north of Lowe Park’s Arts and Environment Center.
Construction will begin as the capital fundraising campaign nears completion. The $1.7 million project has received generous support at the local, county and state levels.
The amphitheater and sculpture trail project grew out of the Marion Chamber’s Imagine8 community visioning process initiated in 2008. When complete, the amphitheater will feature a 50-foot wide stage that has an oak leaf-like sculptured canopy and an art sculpture trail. A scale model of the stage is currently on display in the lobby at Marion City Hall.
The project is expected to be complete in December 2013, with the inaugural season of events planned for the spring.
