Five People Arrested After Early Morning Robbery in Iowa City
IOWA CITY, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- On July 6, 2013 at approximately 2:47 a.m., Iowa City Police officers responded to the 600 block of E Bloomington St. for a report of a robbery that had just occurred. Upon arrival, Officers located two males who had multiple injuries to their heads and face. According to the victims, they were walking toward home when three black males, a white male, and a black female approached them, confronted them, and then attacked them by hitting them over the heads with a large liquor bottle and proceeding to hit and kick them. The victims reported that some of the people involved then stole personal belongings including an undisclosed amount of cash.
Officers flooded the area and located three people matching the descriptions. All three were positively identified by the victims as being part of the group and they were detained. Both victims were then taken by the Johnson County Ambulance Service to the University of Iowa Emergency Treatment Center for treatment of their injuries, which are believed to be non-life threatening.
Officers knew there were two more males involved in this incident and they searched the area and located the suspect's car. Surveillance was set up and the two suspects later reappeared. When officers approached, both subjects fled on foot, but were quickly caught.
Investigation into the matter determined two of the males were primarily responsible for the robbery. One of those males is 17 years old and his name will not be released at this time. The other male was identified as Quran Rahmel Holt (DOB: 05-16-94). Both subjects were charged with the following charges:
• Robbery - 1st Degree (Class B Felony)
• Willful Injury (Class D Felony)
• Rioting (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
• Interference with Official Acts (Serious Misdemeanor)
• Public Intoxication (Simple Misdemeanor) (Juvenile only)
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Simple Misdemeanor) (Holt only)
In addition, one of the other males was identified as Keeynan D. S. Williams (DOB: 07-21-94) and he was arrested and charged with Interference with Official Acts (Simple Misdemeanor). The other two people involved were released without charges at this time.
This incident remains under investigation and additional charges are possible. Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering up to a $1000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of this suspect.
