Muscatine School Board Pres. Resigns
MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) -- The president of the Muscatine School Board says she's resigning because of "toxic people" on the panel.
The Muscatine Journal reports board president Penny Jones resigned Wednesday because of difficulty working with other board members.
Jones was employed by the Muscatine School District for more than 35 years before retiring in 2010. She was elected to the board in 2011.
In an email Wednesday to Superintendent Bill Decker and Jerry Riibe, who will become superintendent July 1, Jones says didn't succeed in her effort to bring a sense of unity to the board. Jones says she "will no longer expose myself and my health to some of the toxic people serving on the board."
The board must pick a successor or a special election will be held Sept. 10.
