Free Parking Coming To Downtown Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Parking in downtown Iowa City just got a whole lot cheaper.

The city council voted Tuesday to make parking free for the first hour in select downtown ramps. Each additional 2-hour period would cost one dollar.

Mayor Matt Hayek said they want to encourage people to park in the ramps, free up parking along the streets, and ultimately bring more people downtown.
