IA Supreme Court Rules Against CR Schools

DES MOINES, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- The Iowa Supreme Court has upheld a jury's decision that the Cedar Rapids School District was negligent in a case involving the sexual abuse of a student.

The incident happend off campus and after school hours, but the court cited negligence on the district's part over supervision of the special education student.  The ruling awards $500,000 to the family of the girl.

The man involved pled guilty to 3rd Degree Sex Abuse for committing a "sex act" when "the other person is 14 or 15 and the person is four or more years older than the person."

The family's lawsuit against the school was originally files in 2009 and a July first ruled against the school district in 2011.
