Branstad Honors State's Volunteers
MARION (CBS 2/FOX 28) - Governor Terry Branstad took time today to honor those in our communities who give to others..
The Governor's Volunteer Awards were given out in Marion Wednesday morning at Linn Mar High School.
Nearly 200 individuals and groups from throughout Iowa were honored in this year's awards for their volunteering efforts.
"I've long been a believer that our community volunteers, charitable, non-profit and faith based institutions," Branstad said, "are often best equipped to provide long term solutions to the challenges that we face."
The volunteers were recognized for individual and group service, disaster assistance or length of service.
This year's event marked the 30th edition of the awards, which are sponsored by the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Servics.
