Tripoli Man Accused of Stealing Thousands

WAVERLY, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) --  Bremer County man is being charged with first degree theft from an elderly resident of rural Waverly. Michael John Opperud 55, of Tripoli is accused of stealing more than $18,000 from the resident by taking checks and writing them to himself.  First degree theft is considered a class C felony.  Opperud was held overnight in the Bremer County Jail and was then released by a judge on his own recognizance.
