Amusement Park Rides Ready to Open for the Season

IOWA CITY, IA (CBS2/FOX28) - Lions and tigers and chickens and horses and dogs! They're all coming back on Saturday, May 25, when the amusement park rides at City Park, including the well-loved carousel and train that have entertained children for decades, open for the season. The rides are located on the north side of City Park at 200 E. Park Road, adjacent to the river.

Except for the shortened hours scheduled right after Memorial Day (4 to 8 p.m. from May 28 - May 31), the rides will run every day of the week, from noon to 8 p.m. through Labor Day on September 2. After Labor Day, they'll run on weekends only through September 28. In cases of inclement weather, the rides will not operate.

Cost is 75 cents per ride or $6 for a 10-punch card. Punch cards may be purchased at the rides or at the Iowa City recreation centers: Robert A. Lee Recreation Center at 220 S. Gilbert Street, or Mercer / Scanlon at 2701 Bradford Drive.

For more information, contact the City of Iowa City Recreation Office at 319/356-5100.
