Storms Cause Widespread Damage, Outages

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- A day long severe weather outbreak struck eastern Iowa as the sun went down Sunday.  By that time, a powerful line of thunderstorms capable of producing strong winds barreled through the eastern half of the state.
Widespread damage was reported throughout the area, including downed trees and power lines which caused major outages.
At one point, Alliant Energy reported more than 40,000 customers without power, most in Linn County.
Crews worked well into the morning hours to clear debris off of area roads for the morning commute.  So far, no injuries have been reported in Iowa.
