Democratic Lawmaker May Seek Governor's Office

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Democratic state Senator Jack Hatch is seriously considering a run for governor in 2014.

Hatch several weeks ago filed paperwork with the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board to change his campaign committee to reflect that he is considering running for governor. He says Monday that he will make a formal announcement regarding his plans after the legislative session ends.

Republican Gov. Terry Branstad has not announced if he will seek re-election, though he is widely expected to do so.

Hatch has served in the Iowa Senate since 2003, representing Des Moines. He previously served in the state House and worked for Sen. Tom Harkin.
