Alliant Crews Work to Restore Linn County Power

CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/FOX 28) - Alliant Energy crews were busy Monday working to restore power following Sunday night's thunderstorms which roared across eastern Iowa.

In Linn County, about 9,000 people were without power through most of the morning, and by mid-day the number was still about 2,000.

Crews say most of the problems were branches which fell across power lines, arching and bring down entire neighborhoods.

Heather Holmes of Alliant has this word of caution, "always stay away from (downed lines), never drive over with your car."

Students at Prairire High School in Cedar Rapids got the day off due to power outages, and others in the Benton Community School District in Van Horne were to be released about 11:30 Monday morning, also due to power problems.

No one was injured in Sunday night's storm.
