Sen. Tom Harkin's Papers Heading to Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Sen. Tom Harkin will donate his papers to Drake University after plans to give them to a namesake institute at Iowa State University fell apart earlier this year.
The private university in Des Moines announced the decision Friday morning. A press conference is scheduled to formally announce the plans.
Harkin in February abandoned plans to give papers covering his 40 years in Washington to the Harkin Institute of Public Policy at Iowa State, his alma mater. The move came after a power struggle between Harkin's supporters and university leaders over the scope of the institute's research.
Harkin, a Democrat, decided earlier this year against running for a sixth Senate term in 2014.
