Local Rocker 'Rides Wave' From American Idol Appearance

MARION, Iowa (CBS2/Fox28) -- America has spoken and picked Candice Glover as the new American Idol. One American Idol contestant had the whole Corridor pulling for him earlier in the competition.

Gabe Brown of Marion was eliminated in Hollywood. But Gabe says the show definitely brought a big boost for his band Helforstout. “It's all up to the individual person making their life whatever they want, and that's kind of what I think we're doing,” said Gabe.

What they’re doing is riding momentum from Gabe’s idol experience. An experience that didn’t take him to the end, but it’s paying dividends for the band. “It has definitely helped change our landscape a little bit, and give us a better idea of what we're capable of,” said Dan Russell, Helforstout drummer.

After Gabe’s appearance on Idol, there was an outpouring of support on the band’s facebook page. They knew it was time to take to the next level as a group. “We decided that, if we're going to act, we have to act as quick as we can,” said Joseph Brown, Helforstout guitarist.

Helforstout is gearing up to release their first full-length album – something new fans have been waiting for. “These people are hearing about the band, and then when they get a chance to hear the music they're excited about the band,” said Jeremy Jacobs, Helforstout guitarist.

Gabe says he wishes nothing but the best for both American Idol finalists. “There's no losers on Idol…as a band we we're just slowly growing. But with that little boost, now we're trying to kind of ride that wave,” said Gabe.

Helforstout has a big event planned for the release of their new album – a free show on May 25th at 3rd Street Saloon in Cedar Rapids.
