Midwest Speed Trials

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX 28) For racecar driving, speed and endurance are two of the key factors leading to success on the track. But on Saturday at Hawkeye Downs, endurance was all that mattered.

Teams of students from around the Midwest brought their own, hand-made electric cars to the track to compete in the Midwest Speed Trials.

Endurance was the key as 15 cars put their breaking and handling to the test to see who could finish the most laps in just under an hour.

Those at the trials say seeing the students work as a team, is just as fun as seeing the cars make their way around the track.

Its a big time team effort, Barry Wilson said. A group of kids who are all focused on the very same thing and its so fun to watch.
