Swenka Appeals Sentence
CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/FOX 28) --
The man convicted of vehicular homicide in the death of an Eastern Iowa teen is appealing his sentence.
Zachary Swenka pleaded guilty to the charge in October and was sentenced to a mandatory 2 years in prison.
Swenka is now asking a judge to reconsider.
Iowa State Patrol says Swenka was driving about 100 miles per hour in 2011 when he lost control of his vehicle.
14-year-old Mackenzie Lown was a passenger. She died from injuries after being thrown from the vehicle.
Swenka's appeal is set for December 16th.
Until then, he has been released on a $10,000 bond.
