Stop Signs to be Placed On Dangerous Intersection

LINN COUNTY, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28)--The Linn County Board of Supervisors made a very urgent decision about putting up stops on this roadway today.

The decision came as many in the community are still dealing with the loss of two lives at the same intersection.

This is where two lives came to an end, in a span of only 15 months.

"I lost my wife in that intersection July 9th 2012. It's an uncontrolled intersection," said Prairieburg resident Ben Holub.

Just last week, another crash killed a 20-year old man. That's why Holub and other neighbors came to a meeting with Linn county board of supervisors asking for change.

"We've had a daily reminder now for over 15 months of the deadliness of that intersection," he said.

They say the problem is a lack of stops on upper boulder road at the intersection of hills mill road.

Residents say without a four way stop sign, drivers go through the road without watching or yielding for others.

Something the board of supervisors is hoping to stop.

"As a result of the accident that took place last week, we were asked to re-evaluate the intersection," said Chairman of the Linn County Board of Supervisors.

Linn County Board of Supervisors got more than 200 signatures from residents asking for re-evaluation.

Still, for Holub, the fight is not over. While he says he's thankful, he also wants Linn County supervisors to do more.

"What I mean by that is to change the policy. To become a controlled county. To put stop signs at every intersection. To prevent the loss of human life from ever happening," he said.

Drivers can expect to see those stop signs sometime tomorrow.
