UPDATE: 1 Dead, 1 Hurt in Explosion

GLADBROOK (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Authorities now say one woman is dead, and a man is hospitalized after a house explosion and fire in rural Tama County.

Authorities were called to 1207 230th Street around 9:30am Thursday morning for a report of a house explosion. When firefighters arrived they found the home fully engulfed by flames.

A report from the Iowa Department of Public Safety says a woman was recovered among the debris and pronounced dead at the scene. A man was taken from the scene to the University of Iowa burn unit.

Tama County Sheriff Dennis Kucera called the explosion some kind of "malfunction," but would not elaborate further.

The Gladbrook Fire Chief tells CBS 2 News a man was working on the furnace of the home when the explosion happened.

The Iowa DPS says one of the people lived in the home, while the other was a heating and cooling repair person.
