Class Celebrates 73rd High School Reunion

CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/ FOX 28)--There's never a dull moment when Miriam Lockwood and her former classmates get together.
"I'm going to be happy all day with these people," said the 90-year-old woman.
It's something she's been doing with them since 1940-- laughing, telling old stories, and at this year's 73rd reunion, remembering their teenage days when they were all students at Roosevelt High School.
"We're small in number, but we still try to get together every year," Lockwood said. About seven members showed up to this year’s reunion at 16th Avenue Grill.
Nearly 75 years later and Roosevelt High is now Roosevelt Middle School. The outside is still the same, but it's what happened inside that the class says they'll never forget.
Some of those memories go back even further than high school.
"A few of us started kindergarten together, 86 years ago," Lockwood said.
Bette Siglin known as Bette Harger back then, remembers young love.
"I was in love with Bob in kindergarten," Siglin said. “Every kindergartener has a boyfriend don't they?"
With most of the group now in their 90s, she and others make it a point to celebrate each year.
"This is more like family than anything else, than school people," Siglin said.
"We're all happy to be here,” Lockwood said. “We feel very lucky that we are here. And count our blessings every day."
