Updated: Thursday, July 24 2014, 04:35 PM CDT
NORFOLK, Neb. -- University of Iowa golfers Carson Schaake and Sam Meuret finished in the top-10 of the Nebraska Amateur Championship at Norfolk Country Club on Thursday, adding to the program’s already stellar summer.

Schaake, a native of Omaha, Nebraska, carded a 287 (73, 69, 71, 74; -1) to finish sixth. He carded a par or better on 59 of 72 holes.

On July 21, Schaake won the Waterloo Open, overcoming a two-stroke deficit in his final round at Irv Warren Golf Course. Last season, the sophomore posted a scoring average of 74.75 while appearing in five events.

Meuret, an incoming freshman, fired a 291 (72, 69, 72, 78; 3) to tie for 10th place. The Brunswick, Nebraska, native is a three-time all-conference selection and 2013 Nebraska Class-C State Champion. He owns the lowest nine-hole record (30) and season average (72.6) in Plainview Public High School history, as well as the NENAC Conference nine and 18-hole records (30, 69). In amateur play, Meuret won the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier and the Nebraska Junior title in 2013. In June, Meuret earned runner-up honors at the PGA Junior Series at ArborLinks in Nebraska City, Nebraska.

On July 8, both Schaake and Meuret qualified for the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship as they tied for medalist honors at sectional qualifying in Omaha. The pair will participate in the event from August 11-17 at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Jones Creek, Georgia.

Schaake was a key player in contributing to Iowa’s sixth-straight NCAA Regional appearance this past season. Iowa is 1-of-3 Big Ten teams to appear in six-straight NCAA Regionals (Illinois and Northwestern).
