OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- The Midwest Collegiate Conference has announced Mount Mercy University’s Jason Furler as its Sports Information Director of the Year for 2013-2014.

Furler, who has spent the last 18 years at his post in Cedar Rapids, has been instrumental in the promotion of Mustang athletics.  A 1995 graduate of the University, he is solely responsible for maintaining and producing all the material on MMU’s athletics website (www.mountmercymustangs.com) as well as all of its athletics social media channels, including @Go_Mustangs on Twitter.

He has helped with Mount Mercy’s visibility in the Cedar Rapids/Eastern Iowa area, highlighted by placement of individuals on The Gym Class on ESPN Radio 1600 AM and on The Sports Desk, a video segment sponsored by The Cedar Rapids Gazette online and KCRG-TV9.

Conference SID in 1996 and 2000, Furler is also the Athletic Facilities and Events Manager at Mount Mercy, handling logistics for all home sporting events, including management of game day personnel and coordination of video streaming.  Furler is responsible for educating the athletics staff on branding as well, assuring consistency throughout all department print and online publications.  He is also in charge of scheduling for the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Furler currently serves on the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame Committee as well as on a planning committee for the new Mount Mercy Athletic Complex.  In the past, he was also a member of the Mount Mercy Golf Classic Committee.
