Suppliers Say Deere Cuts Will Hurt Them

Updated: Friday, August 22 2014, 12:50 PM CDT
CANTON, SD (CBS2/FOX28) -- The impact of more than a thousand layoffs announced this week by John Deere will go much further than that.  Like an auto maker, Deere relies on a number of suppliers and dealers to produce and sell their product.
CBS 2 News spoke with one dealer, Adams Thermal Foundation based out of Canton, South Dakota.  The company has a facility in Cedar Falls, IA.
"We did see it coming."  Said Tad Anderson, Director of Marketing and Communications at Adams Thermal.  But Anderson says the scope of the downsizing took them by surprise.
"We're doing out best to diversify along with Deere and make sure we can provide opportunities in the future, but right now it's going to be kind of tough for a while."  Said Anderson.
Anderson says his company is looking at ways to do more business outside of the agriculture industry to better protect themselves from downturns like the current one.Suppliers Say Deere Cuts Will Hurt Them
