STUDY: Smartphone Breaks a Good Thing

Updated: Tuesday, July 8 2014, 10:56 PM CDT
MANHATTAN, KS (CBS2/FOX28) -- It might sound crazy, but a new study suggests a little smartphone time might be just want the boss ordered to perk up his employee's day.  Researchers at Kansas State University found that workers who took a short break to play Angry Birds or text a friend reported feeling more productive at the end of the day.
Psychologists created an application that tracked how long participants used their phone at work and what kind of activities they indulged in.  Taking a break for some helped relieve some daily stress.
"When employees are more likely to spend time in social related or entertainment related smartphone usage," said researcher Sooyeol Kim, "their well being at the end of the working day were higher than employees who did not."
The average smartphone usage in an eight-hour day was 22 minutes.STUDY: Smartphone Breaks a Good Thing
