Updated: Monday, July 15 2013, 08:42 PM CDT

WASHINGTON (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- An Iowa couple received a very special award Monday in our nation's capital. Kathy Hamilton and Floyd Hammer, of Union, were presented with the Daily Points of Light award, for their work to help feed people around the world. Hamilton and Hammer founded Outreach, a non-profit group that has distributed more than 229 million free meals to hungry children in more than 15 countries.

Monday's award was the 5,000th Daily Points of Light award given out, since President George H.W. Bush started the program in 1990 to recognize volunteers around the country. President Bush, along with President Barack Obama, presented the award to Hamilton and Hammer at a ceremony Monday afternoon at the White House.
