Flood Barriers Going Up at Mayflower

Updated: Tuesday, July 1 2014, 08:23 AM CDT
IOWA CITY, IA (CBS2/FOX28) - All of the water we're being hit with is forcing the army corps of engineers to open up the Coralville Reservoir.
This is because the river has swelled in a short amount of time and they hope to control river levels as much as they can.
They still expect floodwaters will creep into Iowa City, City Park and other low-lying areas in Johnson County.
So, to prepare for flooding, crews are going to put up flood barriers around the University of Iowa’s Mayflower residence hall Tuesday.
That’s the dorm sits right alongside the Iowa River on Dubuque Street.
