Eastern Iowa Rivers Continue Rising

CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/FOX 28) - Much of eastern Iowa is under a series of flood watches and warnings this Memorial Day as a powerful storm just won't leave.


National Weather Service forecaster Kurt Kotenberg says 3-6 inches of rain are expected to fall this week - on top of the 6-8 inches that fell last week.


The latest projections show the Iowa River will crest at a record 22 feet at marshalltown early this week, and flooding is expected.

Beaver Creek


-New Harford:  Current: 13.1 ft, Flood Stage: 12 ft, Forecast: 13.6 ft later today


 


Cedar River


-Cedar Falls: Current: 88.1 , Flood Stage: 88, Forecast: 93.2 Thurs AM


-Waterloo: Current: 10.8 ft, Flood Stage: 13 ft, Forecast: 16.4 ft Thurs AM


-Vinton: Current: 13.3 ft, Flood Stage: 15 ft, Forecast: 15.3 ft Thursday PM


-Cedar Rapids: Current: 11.5 ft, Flood Stage: 12 ft, Forecast: 18 ft Thursday PM   (This will be a few inches below the 1999 flood level, not even close to 2008 level which was around 31 feet or so.  Below is the affects the Cedar river has in Cedar Rapids at various heights for a reference)

-Kalona: Current: 17.5 ft, Flood Stage: 14 ft, Forecast: 20.2 ft Wed


 


North Skunk River


-Sigourney: Current: 19.7 ft, Flood Stage: 16 ft, Forecast: 23.1 ft Wed

-Marengo: Current: 18.1 ft, Flood Stage: 14 ft, Forecast: 19 ft Saturday

-Anamosa: Current: 11.4 ft, Flood Stage: 14 ft, Forecast: 15.4 ft Thursday
