Updated: Tuesday, June 4 2013, 12:26 PM CDT

NORMAN, OK (CBS 2/FOX28) -- After receiving additional information, the National Weather Service has upgraded the El Reno, OK tornado to an EF-5 rating, the highest possible given to tornadoes.
The storm is responsible for at least 18 deaths, including three professional storm chasers who were tracking the storm.  The survey also determined the tornado had a width of 2.6 miles wide, making it the widest tornado ever documented.
The upgrade was reportedly based on information from a mobile doppler radar which recorded wind speeds at 296mph.
