CR Boat Ramps Closing...Again

Updated: Tuesday, May 28 2013, 10:41 AM CDT
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- The Cedar Rapids Fire Department says it will close the city's boat ramps along the Cedar River Wednesday morning at 8:00am and they will remain closed through 8:00am Sunday morning.  This is the second shutdown of the boat ramps in as many weeks due to high river levels.
Fire officials say they have to shut down the ramps whenever the water reaches 13 feet in depth.  That's because the strong currents that come with the higher river levels could be too strong for some boaters to navigate.  Another concern is debris that may float down the river as flooding threatens to bring down trees and other materials.
Officials warn the closure could be extended past Sunday morning if the National Weather Service alters its forecast because of additional rainfall.CR Boat Ramps Closing...Again
