Council Bluffs Cold Case Solved

Updated: Wednesday, July 2 2014, 07:08 AM CDT
COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) – A Council Bluffs man is in jail after a jury said he was guilty of committing a murder nearly 11 years ago.
36-year-old James Harris was convicted Tuesday of first degree murder in the death of Nelson Alvarez-Hernandez.
Prosecutors say Harris stabbed Alvarez-Hernandez during a robbery in July of 2003.
Police investigated the case at the time but it went cold; that is until DNA evidence eventually led them to Harris.
Police say he had long been a suspect but they didn’t have enough evidence at the time to arrest him.
Harris was finally arrested in March; he now faces life in prison without parole.
His sentencing is set for August 20th.
