Boat Ramp Closure Extended in Cedar Rapids

Updated: Saturday, June 1 2013, 05:15 PM CDT

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28)  – Due to continued heightened Cedar River water levels, the
Cedar Rapids Fire Department is extending the closure of boat ramps until
Wednesday, June 5th at Noon.
Boats and water craft are prohibited from being on the Cedar River when
the river level is at 13 feet or higher.
This is due to the increased risk of boating accidents with swift moving
water, strong currents, and rapidly moving debris.

Boat
ramps within the City limits will be closed because river water levels are
expected to be at 13 feet or higher during the period.  Barricades will remain in front of the boat
ramps.

According
to the latest National Weather Service Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service
forecast, the Cedar River is expected to crest at 19.8 feet at 1 AM on Monday,
June 3rd.

The boat closure period may be modified if river level projections are revised
by the National Weather Service.
