CBS 2 Heroes: Christensens

Updated: Thursday, December 19 2013, 08:22 AM CST
Carl and Ione Murdock found love.  Twice.  Both widowed, they married 23 years ago.
There is a lot of love and strong faith between these two, but even they have some lonely days.
That’s when the arrival of another couple, Barry and Sandy Christensen, members of the same church as the Murdock’s, makes such a difference.
The Christensen’s volunteer to come to the couple’s apartment to share Bible study and communion.  Homebound, the Murdock’s are grateful for the visits.
Ione says, “Every minute counts that they’re with us.  It means more than them getting in a car and driving up and knocking on the door.  It means a lot.”
For Carl, “For them to take that time to come see us, it’s marvelous.  Time out of their life for that purpose.”
The Christensen’s, who also volunteer for the Salvation Army, say visits like these are gifts they give themselves.  Barry says, “Ultimately, when we walk away, we’re strengthened in our daily walk.  When we see that even though these people are struggling, they know that there’s hope for them.  What an amazing thing that is.”
The Christensen’s, and the example they set for volunteers everywhere, are this week’s CBS 2 Hero.
