CBS 2 Hero: Pat Goodwin

Updated: Thursday, December 19 2013, 08:22 AM CST
Pat Goodwin tried to retire.  Three times.
Now 80-years young, she has a message for those thinking about slowing down:  "Don't do it."

Pat volunteers up to 24 hours a week at several non-profit organizations.  We caught up with her at Roosevelt Middle School.  Pat graduated from Roosevelt when it was a high school back in 1950.  Today, she's one of the school's most reliable volunteers.

"I just think it's so great that she models servant leadership.  It's so neat for our students to  make that connection and see that modeled for them," says Principal Autumn Pino.

Pat spends her week at Roosevelt, Foundation Two, Mercy and St. Luke's Hospitals, as well as at the Salvation Army and Metro Catholic Outreach.  As for slowing down, she says, "I think if you do that, you just lose the brain power.  You lose your power and I think you need that to keep going."

Principal Pino says, "She truly is a volunteer at heart.  I think of the little things she does for us and we truly appreciate it!"
