CBS 2 Hero: Cathy Gullickson of the United Way

Updated: Thursday, December 19 2013, 08:24 AM CST
In one month, Cathy Gullickson and her husband Marc, will wrap up a successful $10 million United Way Campaign.

The two committed to the campaign two years ago, and since then have spent countless hours raising money for the dozens of non-profit organizations that benefit from the United Way.

Volunteering is nothing new for Cathy.  She says her first volunteer “gig” was accompanying violin students on the piano, as a young woman.  Since then, she turned her passion into helping others, into a career, retiring from the Mercy Foundation in 2007.  She has served on Boards and committees for organizations ranging from Waypoint to Kids First Law Center, to CSPS and Orchestra Iowa.

She says, “When people ask you to serve on a Board, it’s a great opportunity.  Not only do you have a chance to serve and give, but the people you meet, who are involved in non-profits are some of the greatest people.”
