CONNECTS AGAINST CRIME: The Nose Knows

Updated: Thursday, June 26 2014, 11:31 PM CDT
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Arson is a costly crime in the United States.

According to the National Fire Prevention Association, an estimated $1.3 billion dollars in property damage is caused by intentionally set fires.
For many fire departments, the battle against arson is being fought on four legs.

‘Ember’ with the Cedar Rapids Fire Department is one of two ‘arson dogs’ in Iowa sponsored by State Farm Insurance. Each dog is trained for months by the company on how to detect trace amounts of ignitable liquids on a scene.

Ember and all of the dogs in the program come from animal shelters and animal rescue programs, It gives them a second chance to serve their communities.CONNECTS AGAINST CRIME: The Nose Knows
