MARION, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX 28) - Jim
Anderson knows how hard people work to build a life for themselves. He’s done
it himself, growing Anderson Automotive in Marion from a simple home repair
shop. He also has a big heart and lives by his father’s advice. "If you
ever get to a point where you have a little something in life,” Jim recalls his
dad saying, “don't ever forget the people who helped you get there."

During the last recession, Jim
found a way to put those words into action. Wheels of Change is that device; a
program that virtually gives away automobiles to generous people who could use
a new ride. Explains Jim, “Just think about that person that you always see
going out of the way for everybody else and always puts themselves last. That's
the person that we want to find."

Now in its fifth year, the Wheels
of Change “prize” this time is a 2001 Honda Accord. Wade’s Auto Collision and
Advanced Auto Parts both chipped in to help make the V6 vehicle road ready. The
only catch, the recipient pays one dollar for the car; for good reason.  "When they go to register the vehicle
they're paying sales tax on $1 instead of the appraised value if it was a gift,"
said Jim.

Shop owners around the country
liked the idea so much that they’ve adopted Jim’s program, giving away more
than 30 vehicles from California to Colorado, Illinois and New Mexico to name a
few.

If you would like to nominate a
deserving person for the Honda Accord, go to the News Links section of this
website for more information.  The
nomination process will stay open for several weeks and we will follow up with
the winner in May.
